Spring into Fun: Exciting April Events for the Whole Family in Highlands County!

Spring is in full swing, and Highlands County is buzzing with exciting family-friendly events this month! Whether you're looking for outdoor fun, tasty treats, or cultural experiences, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Mark your calendars and get ready for a month of memorable activities!

1. 25th Annual Highlands County Farm Bureau Cracker Shoot

Date: 12 April 2025
Location: Square 1 Shooting Range & Outdoor Venue

The funds from this fun event are what we use to give back to Highlands County in the form of donations to food banks, supporting FFA and 4-H programs, donations to the youth fair exhibitors, leadership training programs, and advocating for agriculture at the county, state and federal levels, and so much more.

We hope you’ll join us in giving back to the community by sponsoring a sign, a team, or being a shooter! The meal will be delicious too! Come and enjoy the beauty of this Florida cattle ranch with us.

3. Earth Day Festival

Date: 5 April 2025 from 10am - 3pm
Location: Highlands Hammock State Park
The 7th Annual Earth Day Festival is an educational day featuring nature walks, tram rides, guest speakers, exhibits and activities for children and families. Park visitors of all ages will learn about what government agencies and environmental organizations are doing to make a world of difference locally! Nature walks include a birding hike at 10 a.m. and a Kids Discovery Nature Walk at 11 a.m. Hikes are approximately one hour. Exhibitors include the following. Archbold Biological Station, the Nature Conservancy, Florida Trail Association, Florida Forest Service, Heartland Beekeepers, IFAS Master Gardeners, the United States Department of Agriculture and the Florida Department of Health. Also included are two Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission exhibits. FWC will provide Black Bear Education and highlight the FWC Ridge Rangers who participate in resource management along the Lake Wales Ridge. This year's festival will also feature a special exhibition of Florida Highwaymen artists. Speaker programs include Joe Guthrie, Wildlife Biologist, Archbold Biological Station, who will present "The History of Predator/Prey Research at Archbold Biological Station," Chris Boyce, FWC South Area Bear Biologist, who will advise Florida residents on "Living with Florida Black Bears & Reducing Bear/Human Conflicts," and David Schmidt, Civilian Conservation Corps Museum Curator, HHSP, who will reveal the extraordinary "Origins and Legacy of Highlands Hammock State Park & Archbold Biological Station." Food and refreshments will be available at Hendricks Sak O'Nutz and the Hammock Inn concession.

* Park entry fees of $6 per vehicle (up to 8 occupants), $4 per single occupant vehicle and $2 for bicyclists and pedestrians apply. Tram tours tickets are $15 per adult, $10 per child for ages 6 to 12 years and free for children under 5.

4. Avon Park Lakes Farmers Market

Date: Second Sunday in April from 9am - 2pm
Location: Avon Park Lakes, 2714 Nautilus Dr, Avon Park, 33825
Support local farmers and artisans while picking up fresh produce, homemade goods, and unique crafts. The market also features live music and kids’ activities, making it the perfect weekend outing for the whole family.

5. Blueberry Festival

Date: 26 April 2025 from 9am - 3pm
Location: Donaldson Park, Downtown Avon Park
