AMBUCS

"Creating Mobility and Independence For People With Disabilities"

January 30, 2015
1) What is AMBUCS?

AMBUCS is a service club dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities.  The organization does this by providing AmTryke therapeutic tricycles to children and adults with disabilities.  There are also other forms of community service that our organization can provide, as we see needs in our community.
2) Why did you start a local chapter?

We started a local chapter to help provide the therapeutic AmTryke tricycles to individuals with disabilities in our area.  Many of these individuals already use adaptive tricycles through our school therapy and adaptive PE programs.  Since adaptive tricycles are not considered medical equipment, they are not covered by insurance and Medicaid services.  By starting a local chapter, we are hoping to help provide AmTrykes to these individuals.  Our local chapter is called Heart of Florida AMBUCS.
3) How does someone become involved in the local chapter?

We have monthly meetings that will be resuming in January.  We are in need of individuals to join our chapter to help with fundraising, organization and service projects.
4) Is there a fee for one to become involved?

Annual membership is $35 and includes membership with the National organization and also helps with operating costs of our local chapter.
5) Who do I contact if I want to volunteer?

Frannie Gillilan is the President of Heart of Florida and can be reached at 863-446-0656.
"We have our first fundraiser on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 2:00pm.  It is Bowling for Bikes at Heartland Bowl in Sebring.  Cost is $20 for participants and we are also looking for sponsors to help with the cost of the event."
