Museum of Science and Industry

Our Family Trip to MOSI

July 28, 2014
I received media passes for this review.
The Museum of Science and Industry provides two buildings for families to enjoy. In the main building on the first floor, you will see one of the largest dinosaurs ever discovered. Sauropods weighed about forty tons but had a tiny brain. They were herbivores with long necks (reaching as high as five stories) which allowed them to reach food high up in the trees. Their long tails helped them to balance their very long necks. The third floor held the exhibit The Amazing You, an Exhibition of the Human Body. This exhibit teaches about the human body from DNA to organs. And about the beginning of life through death. Various medical conditions and diseases which occur at different developmental stages of life is another lesson one learns in this exhibit. (FYI In this exhibit there was a video of a mother giving birth and specimens of babies in plastic cylinder shaped containers.) On the second floor, one will enjoy Disasterville. In this 10, 0000 square foot exhibit children experience extreme weather conditions such as tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, and other natural disasters.
In the second building at the Exhibit Galleries, my girls had a blast with the playground full of scientific hands-on activities. My daughters enjoyed playing tug of war with their dad while learning about physics. They experienced what it would be like to crawl through caves. Their favorite activity was the exhibit that resembled a spider web. Here they both wore wristbands that were attached to a cord. The girls had to figure out how to get from one side of the "web" to the other by maneuvering their way the cords. They also loved to sit in the wheelchair and attempt to wheel themselves from one end of the ramp to the other while encountering various challenges.
My family enjoyed a day at MOSI.
