FIZZ, BOOM READ! SUMMER 2014 READING--LAKE PLACID MEMORIAL LIBRARY

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Memorial Library staff and volunteers invite children, young adults, their families and caregivers to visit the library during the fast approaching summer break to participate in the 2014 Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is Fizz, Boom! Read!, a scientific extravaganza of experiments, natural explorations, crafts, take home projects, music and poetry. The public library cares about your children and has planned programs to keep them reading and learning all summer.  While keeping track of the number of books they have read this summer, children who join the summer library program keep their brains active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed.

Children of all ages will discover and enjoy fiction and non-fiction science books and movies that include recently acquired collection items for the three County libraries. There will be five program sessions for six through 12-year old children which will take place on the following Wednesdays.
  • July 16, 1:00 pm — Fun Day at the Farm/by Happiness Farms: Readings, activities and crafts
  • June 23, 1:00 pm — Anne Reynolds —Archeology: The science of digging (Please call and check on this date. I believe it is suppose to be July 23rd not June 23rd.)

Young children will be encouraged to read daily and keep track of the books read on a personal log.  Their reading progress will be displayed throughout the library on a fizzing bubbles paper chain. Small incentives including books donated by local organizations, such as the Moose Club and a Friends of the Library and Lake Placid Noon Rotary will be distributed to children recording their reading time in the personal logs.

FREE children’s movies will be shown following the programs at 3:00 pm.

In addition to the summer programs, the Lake Placid Memorial Library continues to introduce children to the love of reading with free Lapsits for infants and toddlers through three years of age .They are offered on Wednesdays at 10:00 am. Storytime for 3 to 5-year old children is held every Wednesday at 10:30 am.

The library is located at 205 West Interlake Blvd. on the circle. The programs are free to the public and no registration is required. For more information contact Lake Placid Memorial Library at (863) 699-3705 or visit the Heartland Library Cooperative website at www.myhlc.org.
