Our trip to Bok Tower Gardens

Their future plans.

July 14, 2014
Have you ever been to Bok Tower Gardens? Did you know that they have activities for kids? And are in the process of adding an Education Building and a Children's Garden.

My daughter and I visited Bok Towers a few weeks ago. (The park provided me with media passes.) When we first arrived we went to the Visitor Center. At the Visitor Center I met with the Director of Marketing. He explained Bok Tower Gardens' future plans for expansion and also about their Discovery Days.

At the Visitor Center my 8 year old daughter was given a Discovery Backpack. The backpack included reading books (different levels) on plants and wildlife, binoculars, bubbles, and a campass. My 8 year old loved using the binoculars and the compass. She also loved to find the hidden tile posts as well as visiting the Singing Tower. On our way home I asked her if she had a good time and she said "I had an awesome time."

Quote from a volunteer about Bok Tower. "It's touchy feeling, educational, and fun for the little ones."

Bok Towers will be working in conjunction with the Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences to build an Education Building. There will be programs for schools and communities. Bok Tower will provide guidance and a syllabus that will incorporate multiple subjects.  Children and communities will learn how to grow their own garden. Communities will be able to apply for funding. There will also be an outdoor kitchen where culinary demonstrations will be shown.

In the Children's Garden there will be an interactive water feature, sand play for digging, things to climb on, under and through, places to build, and a performance stage for kids that want to perform. There will also be a laboratory for classes to use. Secret pathways and a music area will also be incorporated into the Children's Garden.

The project will commence on October 24, 2014. The Children's Garden will take about 18 months to complete. Between private investors and the community, Bok Tower Gardens has raised $9.7 million dollars. The financial support obviously indicates the overwhelming excitement that there is for this project to become a reality for many families and the community.

Quote from the Director of Marketing & Public Relations "A place where children can learn about nature through play."
