Summer Family Vacation

Jekyll Island, Georgia

August 28, 2015
Jekyll Island is found on the south east coast of Georgia. The smallest barrier island is midway between Jackson, Florida and Savannah, Georgia. Jekyll Island offers miles of beaches, golf courses, Historic Landmark District, the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, Summer Waves Water Park, tennis center, and an array of lodging options. There's a fee to drive into the island.

My family and I stayed on the island for about a week. One of the many attractions that we visited was the Summer Waves Water Park. The water park offered a kiddie section, splash area, volleyball courts, wave pool, slides, and lazy river. We had a great time.

We also saw the HORTON HOUSE. The Horton House was rebuilt in 1735 for William Horton. His first house was destroyed during a Spanish attack. On his Jekyll Island property he grew a variety of crops to supply the nearby fort.

4-H Tidelands Nature Center offers Summer Camps, kayak and canoeing tours, fishing, nature walks, and salt water exhibits. My girls really enjoyed the hands on exhibit, loggerhead, and baby alligators . My 5 year old attempted to get into the tank with the baby alligators. lol

We really had an amazing time. The hotel was extremely disgusting and we will never stay there again. However the island was beautiful.
